How to claim ILOE unemployment insurance in the UAE — the 30-day deadline, the 60 percent, and the steps
I was let go on Thursday and someone said the insurance pays. I do not know how.
How to claim ILOE in the UAE: 60% of your average basic salary for up to 3 months, capped at AED 10,000 or 20,000, claimed within 30 days of termination.
30 days
from the termination date: the deadline to submit an ILOE claim
If you lost your job in the UAE and you were subscribed to ILOE, the scheme pays 60 percent of your average basic salary over the last six months, monthly, for up to three months, capped at AED 10,000 a month in Category A (basic salary up to AED 16,000) and AED 20,000 in Category B. You qualify after twelve months of subscription without a gap of more than three months, only if you did not resign and were not dismissed for a disciplinary reason, and only if you claim within 30 days of the termination date. The 30 days is the whole trap. Everything else is paperwork.
What it pays, exactly
From the policy terms:
- The rate: 60 percent of your basic salary or wage, calculated on the average basic salary of the last six months before unemployment. Basic, not total: housing and transport allowances are not in the base.
- The length: up to three months per claim, from the date of unemployment.
- The caps: AED 10,000 a month in Category A and AED 20,000 in Category B. The flyer draws the line at a basic salary of AED 16,000.
- The lifetime limit: the aggregate of all claims cannot exceed twelve months over your whole time in the UAE. After a full three-month claim, the certificate is cancelled and twelve consecutive months of new subscription are needed before another; after a shorter claim, that condition does not apply.
A worked example of a common situation, rounded. Total salary AED 8,000, of which basic AED 4,000: the benefit is 60 percent of AED 4,000, so AED 2,400 a month, for up to three months, AED 7,200 in all. The same person's rent does not know the difference between basic and total.
Who qualifies
- You subscribed, and the subscription has run for at least twelve months without an interruption of more than three months.
- The job ended by termination. Resignation and dismissal for a disciplinary reason are excluded by the policy and the brochure.
- You claim within 30 days of the termination date, or of the settlement of a labour complaint that went to court.
- You are a worker in the private sector or the federal government, which is who the scheme covers.
Premiums are a few dirhams a month by category; the current amounts are on iloe.ae. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation fines a worker who fails to subscribe AED 400, and one who misses premium payments AED 200 with cancellation of the policy. The fine guide covers how to check and pay.
The steps
- Find the termination date. It is on the termination letter and the MoHRE record. Count 30 days forward; that is your deadline.
- Cancel the work permit, or have the employer do it. ILOE's brochure advises cancelling the work permit before submitting, "to ensure the validity of the claim and to proof the loss of employment". If the employer is slow, do not let the 30 days run out waiting; submit and follow up.
- Submit the claim through one of the three channels the brochure lists: the ILOE smart app, the website at iloe.ae, or the call centre on 600 599 555. The help email is iloehelp@iloe.ae.
- Keep the reference and screenshots of each step with dates.
- Payments arrive monthly for up to three months while you remain unemployed. Under the policy you are not obliged to pay premiums after the claim payment ends.
The other three clocks
ILOE is one of four deadlines that start on the same day. The job-loss guide sets out all four and the order to deal with them: the ILOE claim, the final settlement and gratuity, the visa grace period, and the bank. The one most people get wrong is the bank: a final settlement paid into the account at the lending bank can be taken against the loan before you see it, so the deferment request goes in before the settlement lands, not after.
Frequently asked questions
Is ILOE paid on basic or total salary?
Basic. The policy calculates the benefit on the average basic salary or wage of the last six months. If your contract puts most of your pay into allowances, the benefit is small; check the basic figure on your contract before you count on the number.
What if my employer never subscribed me, or stopped paying?
Subscription is the worker's obligation under the scheme, and the Ministry fines non-subscription at AED 400 and missed premiums at AED 200 with cancellation. If your certificate lapsed, the twelve-month qualifying period may have restarted. Check the certificate in the app before assuming either way.
Does ILOE affect my gratuity?
No. Gratuity is owed by the employer under the labour law; ILOE is an insurance benefit from the scheme. They are separate payments from separate payers, and the job-loss guide explains the gratuity.
Can I claim if my labour complaint is in court?
The policy addresses it: the insured must keep paying premiums while the complaint runs, and the 30-day window counts from the settlement of the complaint referred to the court. Keep the certificate alive through the case.
What if I find a job in month two?
The benefit is for the period of unemployment. Under the policy, a claim that paid less than the full three months does not trigger the twelve-month re-subscription rule, so a later claim is possible without restarting the clock.

When the benefit is one line in a month that has changed
Three months at 60 percent of basic is a number; what it has to cover is a list. Hisab keeps the list, shows the gap month by month, and drafts the letter to the bank before the settlement lands. Free, no account, records on your phone.
